Dear Everett Community,

By now you may be familiar with Socktoberfest, the annual party/charity event that has taken place in downtown Everett over the past several years every fall.  Thanks to all the organizations and members of the community that have helped out, last fall’s Socktoberfest was a huge success.  Over 2,000 pairs of socks and hundreds of free shoes were distributed, lots of warm food, live music, door prizes and new friendships were created that night.  There was definitely a difference felt by all who attended.

Socktoberfest is one of the many outreach events organized by the Emmaus Community, a group of like—minded folks who desire to make a difference in Everett.  This coming May we’ll be hosting a similar event.  I’m writing today to let you know about it.

After asking around, we discovered that many people in Everett often struggle to find transportation around town, even to get to a doctor’s appointment or to visit a family member.  In response to this need, we are partnering with local churches, neighborhoods, businesses and Everett Transit to raise money to help provide free bus tickets for those who need them.  It’s called ‘May Rides‘.

It will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church (located on the corner of 24th and Lombard) at 5pm on Saturday, May 13th.   We will be serving a free hot meal of beef stew with a keg of locally brewed root beer and desserts.  In addition to live music, plenty of fellowship and food, attendees will also be able to stop at an Everett Transit booth to pick up free bus tickets and to learn more about how to use the bus system from Everett Transit representatives.

Financial contributions are sincerely appreciated, and will go directly towards the cost of purchasing tickets.  Volunteers are also welcome, especially on the day of the event.  If you are interested in helping out, you can contact me using the info below.

Any donation in the form of a check may be written to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with ‘May Rides’ in the memo line.

It is our hope that, with your help, prayers and support, we can make a real difference in the lives of people in need in the downtown Everett community.  Thank you!
