Why Evangelicals Hate Jesus

My lovely fiance pointed me to this article on the Huffington Post website. I’ll admit, it’s a slightly inaccurate title, but certainly provocative. The author of this article, Phil Zuckerman, has put his thumb on the pulse of some of the most controversial, contradictory issues in the American church. There is a disparity between what Jesus teaches and how the church acts.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/phil-zuckerman/why-evangelicals-hate-jes_b_830237.htmlSo, read the article and tell me what you think. Do you agree with him? Or not? Why?Just a little food for thought, friends. Have a blessed Lent.-Sean

as a lutheran flavored christian i’m saddened to say i could probably put myself in the article’s title or even "why lutherans hate jesus". Perhaps some of the details why would differ, but i can think of tons of reasons that I’m wrong say I’m doing something as a Christian, when really – they are crap. One line I took issue with for the sake of the evangelicals is this one: "They despise food stamp programs, subsidies for schools, hospitals, job training — anything that might dare to help out those in need. " really? despise that stuff? i’m not sure that’s fair. What’s hard for me too is that there’s an awkward, blurred line that runs through "conservatives"… conservative christians… evangelicals… people on the right. Not sure what to make of that and what’s clearly identified as "Jesus-y". He casts "all" evangelicals in this light of being against Jesus and I’m sure it gets people’s attention, but I’m just not sure it’s fair. What I love about this guy: — addressing hipocracy at it’s roots – ie Jesus is peace and Evs promote war– that it really is a terrible tragedy that we can so easily "say" we love the Jesus but aren’t remotely connected with what was the core of his life, actions and teachings. — this line: "they see in their religion what they want to see, and deny or despise the rest" …. reminds me of something i heard somewhere about "making god in our own image" 😉 Jesus save us from ourselves!
